UPDATE!!!
Through generous donations received the board of Brendon's Smile is exited to announce we have achieved our goal of raising the necessary funds to recruit an expert in the field of the Childhood Stroke phenomena to speak on the topic.
In cooperation with the Washington University School of Medicine's Neurological Department, Brendon's Smile has secured a speaking engagement with Dr. Rebecca N. Ichord, Director of the Pediatric Stroke Program of the Children's Hospital of Philidelphia (CHOP)..

Dr. Ichord will be speaking on the topic of childhood stroke on May 20th, 2010.

Our efforts don't end here; this is a step. Brendon's Smile will continue to raise funds for future instructional events such as Dr. Ichord's visit to help raise tangible, actionable awareness for childhood stroke. We hope we can continue to count on your support.

A central mission of "Brendon's Smile...Raising Awareness For Childhood Stroke" is to raise awareness amongst pediatricians, neurologists, and other health care providers. Too many times we have heard “Children have strokes? I never heard of that…”

In light of this absence of knowledge regarding the childhood stroke phenomena, our goal is to provide substantive, accurate statistical and practical information. It is through this information we hope to inspire current and future medical professionals to help chart a better understanding of childhood stroke, treatments and therapies for stroke SURVIVORS.

To this end, Brendon’s Smile has partnered with the Department of Neurology at the Washington University School of Medicine to use "Brendon's Smile" donation/funds to bring in an internationally known pediatric stroke expert to lecture to the medical community, and to interact directly with medical students and residents. We are committed to making certain that our current and future physicians are fully educated on the topic of childhood stroke.

It is our goal to raise sufficient donations to present the lecture series annually.
